Risks of Untreated Obesity

Extra weight and fat on the body can put strain on every system, resulting in a host of other health conditions. Obesity is associated with many circulatory conditions, including high cholesterol, hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, stroke and heart disease. In addition, obesity is related to other internal chronic conditions like diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, sleep apnea, asthma, depression/anxiety, infertility and urinary incontinence disease. Finally, excess weight can put stress on the bones and joints, increasing the risk for osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease, which can result in chronic back and joint pain.

Obesity is not as simple as being overweight. The excess fat stored on the body can have detrimental effects on every organ and system, resulting in many symptoms and conditions that impact health. Obesity problems may also include heartburn, joint pain, breathing problems, fatigue and mental health problems.
